About Connecticut City Birth Records
Each city and town in Connecticut maintains its own birth records through the Town Clerk's office. The Town Clerk serves as the local Registrar of Vital Statistics for that municipality. This means that if you were born in a specific Connecticut town, your birth certificate is on file with that town's clerk.
To obtain a certified copy of a birth certificate, you must contact the Town Clerk of the town where the birth occurred. Most town clerks offer multiple ways to request records: in person, by mail, and increasingly through online ordering systems.
For births that occurred on or after January 1, 2003, Connecticut law allows any town vital records office to issue a certified copy. For births before that date, you must request from the specific town of birth or the State Vital Records Office.
